New York, New York
Get tickets!Description
Hundreds of overlooked edible and medicinal wild herbs, shoots, greens, flowers, roots, and mushrooms grow wild in natural areas throughout our region. People often destroy these renewable species as "weeds," but they've nourished and healed humans for thousands of years. Under expert supervision, they're easy to learn, recognize, gather ecologically, and use for food and home remedies. And people who explore their local ecosystems to learn about wild foods become more committed to protecting our environment's endangered non-renewable resources.
The tour leader, world-famous naturalist "Wildman" Steve Brill, seasons the seasonal edibles with generous helpings of science and conservation, a pinch of folklore and mythology, a dash of history, and an all-natural extract of cooking information; all tossed together with his jokes, humor and anecdotes. This tour also provides a great way to get people of all ages interested in the natural world that surrounds us, and the science that explains it all.
